happy monday!

Drinking coffee and riding bicycles makes me happy! Although I don't recommend riding bicycles while drinking coffee.

le tour

A61a0016d0bd8420736acab7c1796e29

Thanks to Black Eiffel for sharing these awesome Tour de France posters. It's the only sport I truly enjoy watching, although most of the time I have no idea what's going on in the race. Good thing my bike riding husband is patient and doesn't mind explaining to me several times who is who and what's going on. Due to our Monday thru Friday adult responsibilities though Ebert and I are only been able to watch the Tour on the weekends. It's not the same as last summer when we could wake up early on our own time and leisurely watch the tour but it's fun nonetheless. I'm rooting for this guy because Ebert raced with him back in the day. Look at my husband go. I love him...a lot!

uphill

It's an uphill battle, folks. It's a goddamn struggle. Others will make it look easy, but it will hurt. You've got to get out of the saddle and pedal with everything you've got. People are cheering you on. You're almost to the top. And when you get to the top the hard effort will have been worth it.

Just look at that view behind you.

etsy love

Le tour has begun and what an exciting day of racing it was. In honor of today's first stage I thought I'd share two of my favorite things - etsy and bicycles.

bike to work day

Happy Bike to Work Day! It's a beautiful day in the Chicagoland area- a perfect day for riding a bike, if I do say so myself. What does your commute to work look like from a bike? Send me your pics. And have a wonderful bike riding weekend!

making life better

Yes, I quite agree that bikes do make life better.

And did you know that it's National Bike to Work Week? Since Ebert and I both work from home, for the most part, it's kind of hard for us to bike to work. But, who knows? Maybe we'll try it!

pretty bikes

May is National Bike Month. It's still a little too chilly in Chicago to be riding outside, at least for me. There are plenty of Chicagoans who won't let a little cold, or rain, or even snow stop them from riding their bikes- I'll tell you these Midwesterners are tough. I am longing to pedal through the streets again, so in hopes that the weather will be warming up soon here's some pretty inspiration to get you and your bike ready for summer.

signed, sincerely yours

"In writing notes or letters, as in all other forms of social observance, the highest achievement is in giving the appearance of simplicity, naturalness and force. Those who use long periods of flowered prolixity and pretentious phrases—who write in complicated form with meaningless flourishes, do not make an impression of elegance and erudition upon their readers, but flaunt instead unmistakable evidence of vainglory and ignorance. The letter you write, whether you realize it or not, is always a mirror which reflects your appearance, taste and character."

~ Emily Post from her book Etiquette: In Society, In Business, In Politics and At Home, Chapter XXVII: Notes and Shorter Letters

After a less than stellar audition this morning, I've come to the conclusion that I don't just want to give the appearance of "simplicity, naturalness and force", I want to be those things. I want to be direct, convey impressions intensely, and be true. I think I will do much better in auditions, and live a more passionate life, if I can aspire to those states of being.

There is an art to letter writing that I'm not sure I will master throughout the course of next week. If anything, the stationary I'm using can be a work of art. So, here are a few more letter writing supplies inspired by my fondness of bicycles.
