pink
"You can learn a lot of things from the flowers, for especially in the month of June. There's a wealth of happiness and romance, all in the golden afternoon."
~ Alice in Wonderland
I love summer colours week over at Poppytalk! All the pretty colors makes me want summer to never end.

L.A. mountains
I miss the mountains.
Don't get me wrong, summertime in Chicago is the absolute best! But there's nothing like hiking to the top of the mountain behind your house and seeing this view.
Oh, L.A. we've been a part a very long time indeed.

red sandals
I've been thinking about buying a pair of red sandals. It seems like the summer-y thing to do. So far these are my favorite - any thoughts?
I must also mention that I'm getting to the age where comfort is more important than style. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Spreading summer joy makes me happy!
Check out You Are My Fave all week long for more ideas on how to spread summer joy. Seriously, I love this idea and wish I had a polaroid camera.

sunday supper: cobb salad
This salad is amazing. I think I've made it about three times this week. Do you want to know the best part? The turkey bacon! Now, why didn't I think of using turkey bacon sooner! Also, Whole Foods has a great vegan Worcestershire sauce that I used for the dressing. And you can find out how to make the perfect hard-boiled egg here.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Father's Day! Happy Cooking!

coincidence?
Do you think it's a coincidence that my birthday just so happens to be on the same day that Part Two is released, and that the British restaurant I will be celebrating at later that same day has a crest with a lion on it that looks very similar to the lion on Gryffindor's crest?

I'm gathering inspiration for another apartment project. This one has been on the to-do list for a while, but I'm determined that by the end of the summer it will be complete.

sunday supper: b-a-n-a-n-a-s
I was just given a box full of bananas. That's a lot of bananas. What am I going to do with all these bananas? Well, whatever I decide to make I know "This s%@$ is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S."

farm stay
Do you think you'd ever want to vacation on a working farm? I love the idea of supporting family-run farms and seeing first-hand the daily life of the farmer's and their families. Not to mention the immense appreciation you would have for farmers after connecting to where our food comes from. But most importantly, I love the idea of slowing down and disconnecting from the hustle and bustle of city life. How fun does cooking on a wood stove with food that was just picked from the ground and using candles at night sound?

soar
via todayispretty
“Let your mind start a journey thru a strange new world. Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before. Let your soul take you where you long to be...Close your eyes let your spirit start to soar, and you'll live as you've never lived before.”

happy monday!
An indoor herb garden made out of diy repurposed tin cans makes me happy!
It's not an outdoor garden, but my green thumb needed a small project first especially since some friends just gave us a venus flytrap and it's not doing so well. Actually, I think we've killed it. So starting indoors seemed like the best idea. I did, however, plant seeds this time and I think (hope) they are growing nicely.

sunday supper: arugula salad
Right now I'm sitting on the front porch typing away and sipping on a gin & tonic- it's been an absolutely glorious weekend in Chicago! The kind of weekend where you want to jump up and down screaming "It's summer! It's summer!". I don't think I've been this excited about summer since third grade when summer meant going to California, days at the beach, riding my bike to the candy store, afternoons at the movies, and Sweet Valley High books. Awwww....those were the days!
Even though my days aren't quite as carefree as when I was eight I'm still just as excited as ever about summer, especially all the delicious summer foods. One of my favorite things to make during summer is salads. Ebert and I pretty much eat salads all year long, but they are just more refreshing on a hot day and when you can add some fruit to them, something I hardly ever do during the fall or winter, however during the summer fruit in green leafy salads is just wonderful. So, to kick off the first official weekend of summer here are some arugula salad recipes featuring different kinds of fruit.

the great outdoors
This video is amazing and makes me quite happy! I'm simply in awe. And watching it makes me want to spend ever possible moment outside, which I've been doing most of the weekend since the weather is absolutely gorgeous here in Chicago.
You can see more beautifulness here. Wherever you are this weekend I hope you're outside enjoying nature.

every day
via goodfood
I've been inspired by Good Food's pie-a-day summer project. Is there something you've been meaning to start or get back to? If so, I can't think of a better day than June 1st, right now, this very moment, to start doing it. I'm getting out the old composition book and will be writing every day for the next 3 1/2 months that "thing" I've been avoiding. It may not be easy, in fact I know it won't be, and it definitely won't be as delicious as baking a pie but on September 15th, 2011 it will have been worth it. The only thing that's stopping me. . .is me. And to be perfectly honest that's a really lame excuse.
